'Vasur' Raja Detained Under Goondas Act

VELLORE: Gangster ‘Vasur’ Raja (alias) Raja (30) of Vasur was detained under the Goondas Act on Tuesday.

Vasur Raja jumped bail in  Sathuvachari Police Station limit and disappeared on April 25 after being charged in an abduction-cum-murder case. Vellore police, launched a special drive against rowdies and gangsters following the brutual murder of ‘Athiradi’ Maha (alias) Mahalingam in a gang-war, arrested Vasur Raja on September 24 in Ariyur Police station limit.

Vasur Raja was involved in two murder cases in Latheri and Sathuvachari police station limits including  charges of extortion, abduction and robbery in Vellore and Katpadi sub-divisions.

 Following a recommendation from superintendent of police of Vellore, P K Senthil Kumari, the District Collector, R Nanthagopal, issued an order to detain Vasur Raja under Goondas Act on Monday.

“The order has been served to the gangster, who is lodged in the Vellore Central Prison for Men, today (Tuesday),” said a police official.

The police further said that Vasur Raja’s accomplice, MLA Raja of Ariyur was detained under the Goondas Act a month ago. It may be recalled that Vasur Raja and associates, wielding deadly weapons, attempted to murder rival gangster Maha on the premises of the District Combined Court Complex on April 10.
