Over 1,800 Units of Blood Donated

VELLORE:The district administration was able to collect 1,887 units of blood  from 24 camps held in connection with Blood Donation Awareness month in October 2015, said Collector, R Nanthagopal who presided over a function organized for National Voluntary Blood Donation Day on Friday organised by the Vellore Tamilnadu AIDS Control Society and the district health services department. The collector said that the district is blessed with seven blood banks and 11 blood collection centres. The blood collected through donations were screened for HIV, hepatitis, venereal diseases, malaria before being given to patients free of cost. If any diseases were identified, necessary treatment was also given to them. The blood banks functioned round the clock to help road accident victims, emergency care and pregnancies. The collector also handed over awards to best donors, donation coordinators on the occasion.
