Tiff Over Rs 10 Takes Awry Turn, 2 Stabbed

Kin of ex-jawan stabs man, his mom for not paying up for booze

VILLUPURAM:  Two persons were arrested for stabbing a 40-year-old man and his sexagenarian mother over a dispute regarding Rs 10, in Kalleri village on Saturday. The police are also searching for an ex-army man in this regard.

According to police, Ganapragasam (59) of Kalleri village is an ex-service man. He used to buy liquor from the military canteen and sell it in his village.

Few days ago, Peter Daniel (40), a fellow villager bought liquor from Ganapragasam, but could not pay Rs 10 as he did no have enough cash on him. On Saturday evening, Ganapragasam went to Peter’s house and asked him to pay Rs 10. A dispute broke out between the two and they abused each other.

Ganapragasam left the spot and informed the issue to his relatives Anthoniraj (53) and Arokiaraj (40) of Keezhmalai village.

The duo went to Peter’s house and inquired about the issue. Another dispute broke out and the duo started attacking Peter with wooden logs. Peter’s mother Elizabeth Rani (65) tried to rescue him. However, the duo attacked her too. At one point, the duo stabbed Peter and Elizabeth with a knife and escaped.

Hearing their cry for help, neighbours came to the spot and sent them to the Government Medical College Hospital in Puducherry. On information, the Anandhapuram police filed a case and arrested Anthoniraj and Arokiaraj the same evening. A search is on to nab Ganapragasam.

Two Women Injured

In another incident, 17 persons were booked after two women were injured in a group clash in Koothanur village on Saturday.

Police said, there was a rivalry between supporters of Krishnamoorthy  (24) and Vadamalai of Koothanur village after the former was murdered in May last.

On Saturday, Krishnamoorthy’s mother Bhoobathy (60) and her relative were talking in front of their house. At that time, Vengatesan, a Vadamalai supporter passed through the road.

On seeing him, both the women cursed him. Vengatesan informed his friends and a gang of went to the spot and attacked the two women. On information, Krishnamoorthy supporters attacked the other group.
