History-sheeter Arrested for String of Motorcycle Thefts

COIMBATORE:The Coimbatore City police on Friday arrested a 54-year-old history-sheeter, who has been convicted in over 70 cases in the past and charged him with stealing over 40 motorcycles since 2010 across Tamil Nadu.

The accused, ‘Kutti’ T Arumugam alias Arumugam, from Dindigul district, had been released from prison in 2010 and had been free till his arrest on Friday.

Police said Arumugam had stolen vehicles from Coimbatore, Salem, Dindigul, Puducherry, Erode and Namakkal districts.

Based on directions from the City Police Commissioner, a police team headed by Assistant Commissioner S Ravi and Inspector Mohan Raj of the Race Course police had been investigating the recent spurt in motorcycle thefts in the city.

They found Arumugam stealing vehicles near the Coimbatore Railway Junction and booked him under IPC Section 379 (theft).
