Tipsy Flier Booked for Nuisance During Landing at Madurai

MADURAI: A 46-year-old passenger was booked for creating nuisance on a Madurai-bound private flight from Colombo on Thursday.

A Thangaraj, a textile trader from Kumbakonam, who was in an inebriated condition, reacted after flight attendants stopped him not to use the toilet when the flight was about to land at Madurai airport, said sources.

Thangaraj used to fly regularly to Sri Lanka for business purposes. On Thursday, he was returning to India by a Spicejet service after staying in the island nation for a few days with a tourist visa.

As liquor consumption was allowed on international routes, he consumed it inside the flight. When the flight was about to land in Madurai around 3.30 pm, Thangaraj wanted to attend nature’s call.

But the flight attendants asked him not to vacate his seat since the plane was landing.

He reportedly picked up a quarrel and forcibly went inside the toilet. Later, he refused to come out when the passengers were alighting from the flight, said the police.

After preliminary investigations, airport officials handed over Thangaraj to Perungudi police, who booked him under section 294 (b) of IPC (sings, recites or utters any obscene songs or ballads or words in public place).
