PUDUCHERRY: Communist Party of India (CPI) urged the government to take steps to announce rain relief to the common people and financial compensation to the farmers, who suffered damages to the agriculture fields in the heavy rains that lashed the area during the last one week.
In a statement on Monday, R Viswanathan said the heavy rains caused suffering to the people, especially the workers, who could not come out for work to earn their living.
Pointing that several houses suffered damages, he said the government should come with financial assistance to those affected, especially the people in the rural areas.
He said the farmers suffered extensively as the fields were submerged in the water damaging the paddy, and the winds damaging the banana plantations.
