Rainbow Nagar Robbery: Woman Among 3 Held for

PUDUCHERRY: Grand Bazaar police have arrested three persons for allegedly stealing jewels and cash from a woman at knife-point at Rainbow Nagar two weeks ago.

The arrested were Divya alias Durgadevi (25) of Erode, Mariappan (33) of Madurai and Sadasivam (27) of Tiruppur. Grand Bazaar Circle Inspector Chintha Kothandaraman told Express the complainant Usha was residing alone at Rainbow Nagar and was acquainted with Divya. On November 4, Divya, along with two other persons, entered her house, threatened her and decamped with eight sovereigns of jewels and `1 lakh in cash, Usha said.

Special teams were formed under the instructions of Senior Superintendent of Police (Law and Order) Dr V J Chandran.

The police personnel, led by Inspector Kothandaraman, traced the calls to Usha’s mobile phone and located Divya. They caught also her accomplices - Mariappan (33) and Sadasivam (27) - who were involved in the crime.

The inspector said Divya, who was involved in flesh trade, along with the two men, went to Usha’s house on November 4. As Usha knew Divya, she let them in. Suddenly, one of the men held a knife to her throat and asked her to part with her money and jewels. Police seized the jewels, but was not able to recover the cash as it was already spent by the accused.
