THENI: Even death couldn’t do them apart. In life as in death, an elderly couple living in a government-run old age home here stood together. They died within 10 minutes of each other in Bodi Government Hospital near here late on Friday.
A source from AHM Trust said Kandasamy (80) had worked in an estate at Mehamalai for many years. As he and his wife Ramayammal (76) had no children, they moved to Cinnamanur and joined an old age home for livelihood. Three years ago, they enrolled their names with the trust.
Their cheerful demeanour attracted all and they used to walk around the home discussing things. They were to leave for Kariyapatti near Aruppukottai on Friday, when Ramayammal was taken to a clinic as she complained of nausea. She was later shifted to the government hospital. Kandasamy, who was accompanying her, developed breathing trouble and died. After 10 minutes, Ramayammal died.
