Jayalalithaa inspired Hillary to contest US president polls: Coonoor MLA

CHENNAI: On an otherwise unexciting day inside the Tamil Nadu Assembly on Tuesday, the much-needed dose of amusement came from Coonoor MLA A Ramu, who said Chief Minister and his party’s general secretary J Jayalalithaa was the one who inpired Hillary Clinton to contest the presidential elections in the United States.

The discussion in the State Assembly was on the demands for the grants for Law and Forest Departments, but that was not to deter Ramu.

“A historical change is happening now in United States of America and it would not be an exaggeration to say that the beginning for this change has its origins in Tamil Nadu, which is governed by Amma,” said the first-time MLA, a former DMDK man who joined the AIADMK two years ago.

“Amma is a primary reason for Hillary Clinton contesting as the first woman candidate in US presidential elections. It is the result of her meeting with our Amma in Tamil Nadu when she was State Secretary. The entire world is hailing this meeting as a historical one,” he said, leading to loud laughters inside the House.

During the meeting, Hillary had realised the power of Amma’s personality and she lost herself in Amma’s command over English language. Hillary, Ramu insisted, got motivation from Amma.

“Finally, after accepting the reality in the ‘words of conviction’ uttered by Amma, Hillary returned to her country filled with joy. Today, she is a candidate for US presidential elections and the credit goes to Amma. I am so happy to record this in this House,” the AIADMK MLA told the Assembly.
