Headmistress suspended for Kodai student suicide

Police said if the inquiry yields evidence against the HM, the case would be altered into section 306 from 174 Cr.PC and she might be arrested.

DINDUGAL: Following the uproar over the suicide of a plus one student after reportedly being insulted by the Headistress, the management of the private school in Kodaikanal has suspended her.

The HM,  Mangaiyarkarasi, was issued the suspension order on Thursday night.

The student, Rajeswaran, of Sivanadi Koil Road took the extreme step by hanging at his residence after he was publicly humiliated and sent back for not paying the school fee on time. His mother, Sarojini,  and relatives have demanded the arrest of the HM and refused to take the body after postmortem.

Police and and education department officials questioned Mangaiyarkarasi for hours.

Later, the school management suspended the HM.

Police said if the inquiry yields evidence against the HM, the case would be altered into section 306 from 174 Cr.PC and she might be arrested.

Meanwhile, Chandran, Dy SP, and some revenue officials pacified the relatives and friends of the vicitm's family protesting at the Kodaikanal government hospital and persuaded them to give up the stir. Then, they accepted the body of Rajeswaran at 11.20 am on Friday.

The police would hold an inquiry with other teachers and students later, sources said.
