Rs 5.78-cr train heist probe handed over to CB-CID

CHENNAI: With no major breakthrough yet in Tuesday’s daring train heist, the investigation has been handed over to the CB-CID, the specialised investigating agency of the state police.

Director General of Police Ashok Kumar ordered the case to be transferred to CB-CID on Wednesday, the same day the case was transferred from the Central Railway Protection Force to the Government Railway Police.

Almost the entire police force from the stretch between Salem and Chennai has been kept on toes to look out for suspicious movements and any clues that may lead to the gang that managed to carry out the daring Rs 5.78-crore heist.

“We have surveyed the entire stretch from Salem to Chennai but to no avail,” said a source.

Forensic reports have suggested use of a hand tool to cut the hole in the coach’s roof.
