8 Killed and 30 plus injured in road accident near Tiruchy
TIRUCHY: In a major road mishap throwing light on load vans being used for transporting passengers, as many as eight were reportedly killed and at least 30 injured in Valanadu Kaikaati village near Manapparai in Tiruchy on Thursday morning at about 10.45pm.
Sources said that a load van carrying about 65 villagers from Ammapatti village in Dindigul district were on their way to Mahaliamman Koil in Kovilpatti village near Manapparai for performing a family Pooja. While the victims on board the load van were taking a turn over Madurai-Tiruchy highway towards Madurai after picking up few relatives in Valanadu Kaikaati, a private tourist bus fortunately without passengers on the way to Tiruchy approaching from Madurai had a head on collision with the load van.
In the incident, villagers on board the load van were thrown away in which at least eight passengers including women were killed on the spot in impact. Since more than 30 vilagers were seriously injured, about seven 108 ambulance vans have rushed to the spot and have been moving the victims to Tiruchy and Manapparai GH for treatments.
Meanwhile, district collector KS Palanisamy is on the way to accident spot and to meet the victims in Manapparai. Valanadu Kaikaati police are investigating.
