The death of Jayalalithaa that sent ripples across the state had several celebrities taking to their social media accounts to pay tributes to the late Tamil Nadu chief minister.

However, film star Kamal Haasan’s tweet that he posted earlier on Tuesday drew wide controversy and was reportedly misconstrued in several unexpected ways from across the cyber space.

"Do you think this is a lie then?" posted one Twitter user along with a picture of the late CM.

To support the star, another responded asking Kamal to put out the tweet in English for everyone to understand clearly and not misinterpret.

"How much venom do you possess in your heart. Is it necessary to argue over a person's death?" tweeted another.

Even as this battle ensued, one more user commented, "Kamal Haasan's condolence sounds like poking fun; with position comes humility, so does courage."

And another went to the extent of explaining the context to the others stating that Kamal Haasan meant 'everyone in Tamil Nadu'.
