CUDDALORE: Residents of two villages, who used to bicker at the drop of a hat, came to the office of Cuddalore Superintendent of Police C Vijaykumar on Tuesday and gave a written assurance that they would bury the hatchet and maintain harmony hereafter. Hundreds from Kamarajar Colony at Sedappalayam and nearby Nagammanpettai Colony came to the SP’s office.
“People in both colonies belong to the same community. Yet they engaged in clashes in the past few months even over trivial issues. About 20 people from both the sides have been booked in different cases on different occasions,” police sources said.
In such a situation, advocate Ila Thirumeni and VCK functionaries stepped in to broker peace.They held talks, highlighting the need for unity.
Subsequently, both sides agreed to put their differences behind. In their written assurance, they said, “We have decided to settle our disputes amicably and live in peace because we have suffered a lot due to the cases and inquiries regarding our fights. We would legally face all cases pending in the court. Hereafter, we would not engage in any clash. We also expect police cooperation in maintaining harmony in our colonies.”
They claimed that a Tasmac shop in the region was the reason for most of the disputes.
Cuddalore Old Town Police Inspector Seenibabu held talks with the villagers of both sides at the SP Office and assured them of full cooperation from the department to uphold peace.
