Boy dragged out at 2.30am by cops to get at absconding father

This 17-year-old Kurava boy did no wrong, but the police detained him on the wee hours of Monday to trap his father, who was suspected to be involved in a theft.

VILLUPURAM: This 17-year-old Kurava boy did no wrong, but the police detained him on the wee hours of Monday to trap his father, who was suspected to be involved in a theft.

Thanks to the intervention of a Tindivanam-based NGO Social awareness Society for youth (SASY), the boy was released after spending almost a day in police custody.

It was only after three days that the parents of the Class XI student Kaviarasan (name changed) filed a petition with Cuddalore SP Vijayakumar demanding action against four unidentified police officers and the inspector of Ramanatham station for detaining their son.

The boy has been living with his father Kolangi (40), who owns a pig slaughter house and mother Rukmani at Naynarpalayam village near Chinna Salem. His brother Manikanadan (21) got married a year ago and has been living separately.

As he belonged to a denotified tribal community, Kolangi was arrested in at least in five theft cases in Villupuram and Cuddalore eight years ago. But, he was acquitted in all cases recently.

Sources said, Kaviarasan was arrested from his house around 2.30 am on Monday.

The police officers had come to the house looking for Kolangi as they suspected that he was involved in a theft in Sittheri village in Cuddalore. The boy, reportedly, told the police, he had to attend a sports meet in Villupuram on Monday, but the cops turned a blind eye to it.

The police officers also allegedly humiliated him by using obscene language against his cast members and his mother.

The boy was only released on Monday night around 8 pm after the intervention of SASY. Cuddalore SP has initiated a probe into the entire episode.
