Temple donations in TN see slump post demonetisation 

MADURAI/VIRUDHUNAGAR/SIVAGANGA : With the Centre’s demonetisation drive affecting all spheres of life, it is now time to see whether the financial decision has had an impact on the spiritual realm as well. The collection of Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple will be counted on November 21.  


Dindigul/Theni

Demonetization might not be enough to dampen the devotees’ fervour at Arulmigu Dhandayuthapani Swamy Temple in Palani. The collection is expected to be normal. The number of footfalls since November 9 has been normal. A source said that temple hundial collection is counted once in 20 days and the previous collection was Rs 1.5 crore.

Ramanathapuram

The Rameswaram Temple administration would open hundial on November 24. On average, the collection is around Rs 50-60 lakh. Due to demonetization, they have planned to open the hundial, as they “cannot stop devotees from donating Rs 500 and Rs 1000”.

Tirunelveli

The hundi collection of Swami Nellaiappar temple in Tirunelveli was counted on Wednesday.  The collection was of Rs 9,16,299. The collection was average.

Thoothukudi

The Tiruchendur Temple Hundial is counted twice in a month. During the counting on November 11, total offering collection stood at Rs 1,20,75,185. The counting done on October 24 revealed a collection of Rs 39,16,431. Average collection here is Rs 1 crore.
