CHENNAI:After women and farmers, it is the turn of government employees to get the new government’s largesse. Chief Minister ‘Edappadi’ K Palanisamy on Wednesday formed a five-member committee of secretaries to revise the pay scales of State government employees in accordance with the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations. The committee has been directed to submit its report by June 30. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Palanisamy to give effect to the poll promise of the late chief minister J Jayalalithaa.
The committee would have Finance secretary K Shanmugam, Home secretary Apurva Varma, School Education secretary D Sabitha and Personnel and Aadministrative Reforms secretary S Swarna with P Umanath as member-secretary.
It would go into the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission regarding the revised pay scales, pension, family pension and retirement benefit for the Central government employees and give necessary recommendations for extending these benefits to State government employees, teachers and employees of local bodies. Recognised unions for employees and other associations could send their demands to this committee for its consideration.
This committee would also study the report of the high-level committee set up by the Central government for revising other allowances and make necessary recommendations.
Wednesday was the third day in office for the new CM. On the first day, orders were issued to implement five electoral promises including Amma Two-Wheeler Scheme, hiking maternity assistance and closing down 500 more Tasmac shops.
