Three more ryots die, another kill himself

Three more farmers died of heart attack, while another committed suicide as deaths due to crop failure and resulting distress continued in the State on Sunday.

NAMAKKAL, TIRUPUR, THOOTHUKUDI: Three more farmers died of heart attack, while another committed suicide as deaths due to crop failure and resulting distress continued in the State on Sunday. Two deaths were reported in Namakkal district and another in Thoothukudi district. In Tirupur, a farmer committed suicide.

Periyannagounder (77) of Nadur village near Mangalam in Namakkal collapsed in his land, where he has  cultivated maize. Neighbours took him to a hospital, but doctors pronounced him brought dead.
Likewise, Sengodan (52), was a resident of Koothampalayam in Mallasamudram, lost his maize crop in two acres to drought. On Sunday, he suffered chest pain while visiting the land. His relatives took him to a private hospital in Salem, where he was declared dead on arrival.

In Tirupur,  Thangavel (65) from Rasakkavalasu near Vellakoil consumed pesticide. He had cultivated tapioca in the four-acre plot. He was rushed to the Erode Government Headquarters Hospital, but in vain.
In Thoothukudi, R Kathirvel (51) of Jamin Kodangipatti near Vilathikulam collapsed in his agricultural field and died without responding to treatment.
