VELLORE: He is supposed to be the guide, guardian and philosopher, for the position of the principal demands it. If one goes by the statement of two students of his college, he is unprincipled to lead them.
The district police have launched an investigation into the complaints lodged by two students of Government College of Education, Katpadi, that their principal had stabbed them. In the meantime, the principal also lodged a complaint against the two students for threatening him on Wednesday evening.
The injured students – Jagan, 25, and Rajan, 26, – claimed Principal (in-charge) S Parthiban had stabbed them when five of them went to meet him around 5 pm to seek permission to organise Pongal celebrations in the college.
While Jagan got injured on his hands, Rajan received cut injuries on his waist. They were admitted to Government Medical College in Vellore. Meanwhile, at around 8 pm, Parthiban lodged a complaint with Virudhampattu police, stating that the students had pushed him down from his chair following an argument. He stated that the incident occurred in his chamber in the college.
According to official sources, the strength of a first year Bachelor of Education (BEd) is 72 while that of a second year is 97.
Since several months, the students have been staging various protests against fee hike, the appointment of teachers and the like.
Sources said, owing to these protests, there was no cordial relationship between student union members and college administration.
P Pakalavan, Superintendent of Police said, they were investigating into the authenticity of the both the complaints. “The principal in his complaint stated that he had asked the students as to why they want to celebrate the festival as it was a holiday. Hearing this, the students suddenly started shouting at him and ran away from his chamber. We are also inquiring with the students.”
