Dindigul, Erode not too smart to pass the test

Dindigul and Erode failed to make to the list of smart cities in the third round as the Union government’s apex committee that selects smart cities thinks the proposals sent by the State government do

CHENNAI: Dindigul and Erode failed to make to the list of smart cities in the third round as the Union government’s apex committee that selects smart cities thinks the proposals sent by the State government do not meet the benchmarks set by it.

It is learnt that the Tamil Nadu government has been asked by the Union Ministry of Urban Development to rework the Smart City proposals for Dindigul and Erode for its reconsideration.

The two cities from Tamil Nadu are the among the 15 potential smart cities across the country which could not qualify and have to upgrade their proposals and submit it to Union Ministry of Urban Development.
Urban Development Ministry sources said the proposal for Erode smart city failed the test as it had issues relating to master plan, which did not highlight convergence of projects.

Dindigul failed the test as the proposal covering 8.51 sq km covering 28 wards for smart city does not have strategy for converting it into the most livable city in Tamil Nadu by conserving local culture and heritage.
