CHENNAI: THE executive chairman, Apollo Hospitals, Dr Prathap C Reddy launched the Apollo Hospitals Headache-Migraine and Memory clinics at a function on Tuesday.
Speaking to the media, Reddy said the clinics would be opened in all the Apollo Hospitals. Several lifestyle trends were increasingly making headaches common, and many a time could severely hit productivity.

Over 20 per cent of the people affected by some form of headache comprised the younger generation. This affected their productive period. Migraine was hereditary, and if treatment was delayed could end up becoming chronic. It would lead to psychological problems and depression. If treatment was started early, it could lead to significant improvement, said Dr Arulselvan, consultant neurologist, Apollo Hospitals.

Dr U Meenakshisundharam, senior consultant neurologist said a study in Kerala found that 35 per cent suffered headache from stress, and 25 per cent because of migraine. Early treatment would help manage migraine significantly. Though migraine was not curable, it improved with age.

The clinics would be headed by a team of neurosurgeons and neurologists. The Headache and Migraine clinic would work from 11 am to 1 pm, and Memory clinic from 2 pm to 4 pm Monday to Saturday. The Headache and Migraine clinic would offer a one-stop care option for patients. A neurology consultant, a psychologist, physiotherapist and a family physician would do a thorough examination of the patient.
Similarly memory clinic would provide treatment for memory disorders including dementia and alzheimer’s at an early stage, said the doctors.

‘Ready to face any inquiry on Jaya’s death’
Apollo Hospitals said it was ready to face any enquiry commission on the former CM J Jayalalithaa’s death. “We have all the data, every bit of document available on the treatment given to her. We are ready to face any enquiry commission,” said Dr Prathap C Reddy. Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the launch of the Headache-Migraine and Memory Clinics by Apollo Hospitals, Reddy said if it were not for a major heart attack that Jayalalithaa suffered, she was responding to the treatment well. “She was shifted to ICU and normal ward,” he added. When asked if there was any interference in her treatment, Reddy said, “There was no interference, but only suggestions to the doctors. We also brought in experts like Dr Richard Beale because we never wanted anything to remain undone,” Reddy added. The chairman also said Jayalalithaa got extra attention, the hospital also took greater care, because people, the Nation loved her.
