Man puts up gutka banner outside DGP headquarters

The Tamil Nadu intelligence unit was caught unawares after a man put up a banner on the walls of the Director General of Police headquarters.

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu intelligence unit was caught unawares after a man put up a banner on the walls of the Director General of Police (DGP) headquarters, with a message alleging that the State police chief was involved in the gutka scam. The banner was on display for nearly an hour before the police got into action following a media alert.

Miffed over the gutka scam, Senthil Murugan, a resident of Madurai, hoisted the banner and addressed the press. But the police at the VIP gate seemed to have missed it.
Taking a dig at the gutka ban during the media interaction, Murugan demanded that those arrested for selling it should be released and the ban lifted.

Apparently, he had visited the police commissioner’s office a day ago with the same request, but no one had taken him seriously.
Murugan was later picked up by the Marina police and interrogated. He claimed he was a social worker.
