VELLORE: About 200 locals of Vaniyambadi staged a road blockade on Bengaluru-Chennai bypass in Vaniyambadi on Sunday night, demanding action against men who sprayed beer and other alcohol drinks on a few girls.

Sources said, around 9:55 pm, a few youngsters in an inebriated condition allegedly sprayed beer and liquor on a few girls who were returning home at CL Road near the weekly market ground in Vaniyambadi.

Following this, around 10:30 pm, hundreds of locals from CL Road and other traders from the market blocked the Chennai-Benglauru bypass road, demanding action against those who sprayed liquor on the girls.

The protesters said that the liquor shop was opened despite their opposition. On Monday, Tahsildar Muralikumar and DSP Sundaram, held a meeting with the locals. Their demand to shut shop was not accepted.

But, the tahsildar ordered shop closure on Monday and Tuesday.Police also assured to increase their vigil.
