Niranjan Mardi back as Tamil Nadu Home Secretary after three years

Senior IAS officer Niranjan Mardi was on Friday appointed the new Home Secretary, a post he is returning to after three years. He replaces Apurva Varma.

CHENNAI: In the first major shuffle of officials a fortnight after ‘Edappadi’ K Palaniswami became Chief Minister, senior IAS officer Niranjan Mardi was on Friday appointed the new Home Secretary, a post he is returning to after three years. He replaces Apurva Varma.

On May 21, 2013, Mardi was appointed Home Secretary. He was transferred on December 24, 2013 and Apurva Varma was appointed in his place.

Mardi is at present Secretary/Vice-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Tamil Nadu Maritime Board and Project Director (in-charge), Tamil Nadu Road Sector Project.  He will look after Home and Prohibition and Excise.

Meanwhile, P Umanath, Commissioner of Rehabilitation and Welfare of Non-Resident Tamils has been transferred as Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation. He replaces Apoorva who will assume charge as Managing Director, SIDCO.
