MADURAI: DMK working president and Leader of the Opposition in Tamil Nadu Assembly M K Stalin on Friday demanded that an impartial probe be conducted into the alleged malpractices in postal recruitment examination.

In a letter to Minister of State for Communications (independent charge) Manoj Sinha, he said there was an ‘unpleasant state of affairs’ prevailing in the postal recruitment exam held on December 11, 2016, that affected the prospects of many aspirants from Tamil Nadu due to the alleged malpractices in awarding marks. The examination was conducted for 100 marks with multiple choice questions, of which 25 marks were allotted for Tamil language.

He said it was alleged by candidates from Tamil Nadu that their counterparts from Haryana had  scored high marks in Tamil, around 24 out of 25.

“I will be the happiest person on the earth to see the candidates from Haryana scoring high marks in ancient and classical Tamil language if it is based on merit, proper and foolproof evaluation. At the same time, I will be very much saddened if the prospects of the candidates from Tamil Nadu are affected due to improper evaluation and alleged malpractices. Candidates in Tamil Nadu who appeared for the examination suspect the marks obtained by the Haryana candidates, especially in Tamil, and they have a genuine complaint,” Stalin said.

Stating that the government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi propagated transparency in all aspects of recruitment, the DMK leader said he was confident that the doubts in the minds of the youth in Tamil Nadu would be cleared swiftly so as to instil confidence in the examination procedure adapted by the Department of Posts. He said youth, whether from Tamil Nadu or Haryana, are assets of the nation. Any direct recruitment procedure that lacks honesty and transparency will cause great harm and irreparable loss to their future.

He said as unemployment is threatening the future of younger generations, he was requesting an impartial probe into the matter of Haryana candidates scoring high marks in Tamil.

Stalin has tweeted using his official twitter handle @ mkstalin, saying ‘I request @manojsinhabjp to order an impartial probe into the Postman recruitment episode & render justice to the aspiring TN youth’. He has also attached a copy of the letter sent to the Minister in his tweet.

The results of the postal examination for recruitment of Postman and Mail Guard were published on March 14.
