TIRUPUR: A 24-year-old woman died after a light pole fell on her.
Litwin Punitha, a resident of Mangalam Road in the city, had been working as a teacher at a private school. Her marriage was just a week away. She and her brother Anand had been out shopping on Tuesday, when tragedy stuck
A lamp post, next to which Punitha had been standing, fell on her when they were out on the road. Even as she was being rushed to the hospital, Punitha succumbed to her severe injuries.
The lamp post, which has been in a state of corrosion for a few months, was ironically just a hundred metres from the Tirupur Corporation building. Angered over the negligence that led to the incident, public gheraoed the Corporation authorities who inspected the spot.
