MADURAI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) initiated a probe into an alleged scam in recruitment examination conducted by the Tamil Nadu Postal Circle to hire candidates for Postman and Mail Guard positions on Tuesday.

The agency conducted searchers in several parts of Haryana. Express first exposed how students from North India, who could barely speak Tamil, topped the Tamil language paper in the exam. Local candidates, who were disappointed by the results, welcomed the CBI probe. They also urged the government to implement fool-proof systems to prevent such malpractices in competitive exams.

R Madan, an engineering graduate, has been preparing for competitive exams for nearly a year. “The educational requirement for Postman and Mail Guard positions was only Class X. Though I am overqualified, I appeared for the exam due to lack of employment opportunities,” says Madan. “Also, I think a government job is more secure, unlike IT sector jobs. Several youngsters taking such exams are over-qualified like me,” he says.

“Such malpractice shatter dreams of aspirants like me and snatch away our employment opportunities. In these days of high technological advancements, authorities should ensure a more secure and fool-proof system while conducting such recruitment examinations,” says Madan. “Only then can we ensure that the genuinely qualified are employed.”

R Karuppasamy, another youngster who took the exam, is happy to know about the CBI probe. “While several people get such government jobs using money, youngsters from economically weaker sections work hard to get these jobs. Though justice has been rendered for those who wrote the postal recruitment exam, steps should be taken to prevent such malpractice,” he said.
