CHENNAI: After the regularisation of unapproved layouts failed to entice the violators, the State has not only extended the deadline by six months but also pushed for a coordination among municipal administration, registration and revenue, rural and planning departments.
It is learnt that besides coordination among the four State departments, there is a plan to launch a campaign among the people who have purchased unapproved plots.

TN has an estimated 24,000 unauthorised layouts, which contain 10-13 lakh plots. Yet, only 8,242 applications have been received till September seeking regularisation of plots and layouts. The housing department notified the regularisation scheme on May 12. The last deadline was November, which has now been extended to May 3, 2018.

Of the applications received so far, 834 pertain to regularisation of layouts; 5,808 to individual plot regularisations; and 1,648 for regularisation of sub-division across the State, excluding Chennai. For Chennnai alone, the total number of applications received till August was 3,100.
The government is also planning a review of the scheme every fortnight, which hadn’t happened earlier. The real estate associations are also being tapped to spread awareness on the scheme, sources added.
