In filmy-style chase, cops, public nab 3 murderers

Twenty-five km, more than 10 motorcycles with policemen and a speeding car.

CUDDALORE: Twenty-five km, more than 10 motorcycles with policemen and a speeding car. In what could be a scene straight out of an action thriller, the Cuddalore police and public managed to nab three men who were speeding away after allegedly killing a 40-year-old man in Puducherry on Monday.
Around 9 am, the Cuddalore district police got information from their Puducherry counterparts that the three were on their way to the town in a car.

As per the instructions from the Superintendent of Police, Cuddalore New Town police inspector Saravanan alerted the police force through the communication system. The cops, who were already on rounds, and those from the Armed Reserved wing then launched a search on their motorcycles. Once they managed to identify the car, police gave a chase on over 10 motorcycles through the streets. However, most of the cops involved in the ‘operation’ had no idea about the offence committed by the occupants of the car.

With the police in hot pursuit, the car hit many motorcycles and dashed against several barricades within Cuddalore and Puducherry limits. Some of the commuters who were at the receiving end also joined the chase.

After a pursuit for more than half-an-hour, the car came out of Pudupalayam and proceeded towards the Chidambaram Road. But the smooth run was disrupted due to a minor traffic jam near Cuddalore Uzhavar Santhai. With the car coming to a halt, people rushed towards it, dragged the men out and began to beat them. Ironically, the reason for their fury was not the murder but reckless driving.
