Cash, documents seized in Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption raids

TIRUCHY, THANJAVUR, TIRUNELVELI: Sleuths from Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) conducted surprise raids at the Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) and revenue establishments across the central and southern districts of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. Tiruchy, Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, Pudukkottai and Tirunelveli RTOs saw raids in a big way.

Sources said the raids took place in the wake of a series of compaints of graft at these centres. During the raid at Srirangam RTO, a sum of Rs 1.03 lakh unaacounted money and several documents were seized. The raid on Tiruchy East RTO led to the seizure of Rs 43,000 and documents.

The raids, which began in the afternoon, continued till late in the night.In Pudukkottai, the DVAC sleuths conducted a raid on the RTO in Arathangi. Upon seeing the DVAC authorities, some brokers who were in the office, reportedly threw away some currency notes and documents out of the office through the windows. Officials seized Rs 75,000 and documents. Similarly, in the raid at Nagapattinam RTO, officials seized Rs 8800 unaccounted cash.

In Thanjavur, sleuths seized Rs 30,625 unaccounted cash from the District Registrar’s Office located near Sivaganga Garden. The DVAC officials, continued their inspection till 9 pm.Sources said cases have been booked against Deputy Registrar Rani, Superintendent Arul Murugan and Office Assistant Amaladoss, with regard to the possession of unaccounted money.A DVAC team conducted a inspection at the Kumbakonam RTO in Patteeswaram.

In Tirunelveli RTO sleuths seized unaccounted money worth Rs 3.58 lakh. Speaking to Express, a source said that the surprise raid followed a series of complaints on bribery prevailing in the transport office.
