CHENNAI: After advocates in the local bar refused to represent a woman SI, who is facing a criminal case of assaulting a fellow advocate, the Madras High Court transferred the case pending against the SI attached to the Karamadai police station in Coimbatore to another court in the neighbouring Tirupur district.

The issue involved was the assault of an advocate practising in the Coimbatore bar allegedly by Renuga and other cops in 2011.

Two cases had been registered following complaints from the advocate and Renuga for offences under various sections of the IPC and the charge-sheets were filed in 2012. As Renuga had allegedly assaulted the advocate, no local lawyer came forward to defend her case.

Hence, she had to engage a lawyer from Tirupur. Fearing that she cannot expect justice from the local court, she had moved the High Court.
