128 officers to receive Anna Medal in birth anniversary of C N Annadurai

Recognising the outstanding devotion to duty of uniformed service officers, 128 officers will receive ‘Anna Medal’ this year.

CHENNAI: Recognising the outstanding devotion to duty of uniformed service officers, 128 officers will receive ‘Anna Medal’ this year, according to an official press release. Every year, these medals are announced on September 15, the birth anniversary of C N Annadurai, former chief minister.

Officers from the police, fire and rescue services, prison, home guards and finger print bureau personnel are eligible for a bronze medal and a grant according to their rank as specified in the Medal Rules.
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami will distribute the awards at a ceremonial medal parade to be held later.

Thirumalai Nambi, Special SI, Gangaikondan Police Station, Tirunelveli, has been awarded the ‘Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Police Medal for Gallantry’. He is eligible for a prize of `5 lakh, in recognition of his brave act on November 6, for securing absconding accused Ramesh alias Ramaiah, who was involved in various cases for 10 years. Nambi sustained severe injuries on his left thigh after allegedly being attacked by accused with an iron rod.

This year 100 police personnel from the rank of SP to Grade-I constable, 10 Fire and Rescue Services personnel from the rank of Deputy Director to Fireman, 10 prison service personnel from the rank of Deputy Jailor to Grade I Warder, six Home Guards personnel from the rank of Assistant Commandant-General to Section Leader, and one SP and one DSP from the Fingerprint Science unit, have been awarded.
