PUDUCHERRY: After Lt Governor Kiran Bedi refused to approve filing a contempt petition in the Supreme Court against the Centre by the Puducherry government, R K R Anantharaman, the government whip,  filed a contempt plea in the apex court today.Commenting on this, Chief Minister V Narayanasamy said that since the Lt Governor failed to show green signal to the Puducherry government to file a contempt petition, the government whip moved the highest court in the country on behalf of the people.
The Puducherry government has been a party to the Supreme Court judgment and has the right to file a contempt petition, the chief minister pointed out.

The petitioner said that the Central government failed to constitute the Cauvery Management Board (CMB)  despite the Supreme Court order. He noted the plight of farmers in  Karaikal, which is at the tail end of the Cauvery delta. The area is worse-hit  in terms of realisation of the stipulated Cauvery water from Tamil Nadu.  Besides, the inflow data revealed that Puducherry  received hardly any water during the peak agricultural season (June to September)  against the 4.01 TMC water to be received in those four months from Tamil Nadu. This has led to crop damages in the Karaikal region, leading to severe distress among farmers.

By moving the contempt plea in the apex court, Puducherry is seeking justice, he said.Even TN betrayed us, says NarayanasamyPuducherry Chief Minister V Narayanasamy on Tuesday alleged that not only Karnataka but Tamil Nadu also wasbetraying the Union Territory regarding release of Cauvery water.“Not only Karnataka, but Tamil Nadu also is betraying Puducherry as far as Cauvery water sharing   is concerned,” he told reporters here after visiting DMK working president MK Stalin.

He extended full support to the DMK-led opposition parties sponsored bandh to be observed on April 5 demanding setting up of CMB and Cauvery Water Regulatory Committee. He said the L-G of Puducherry Kiran Bedi had returned a file on moving the Supreme Court with a contempt petition saying the government could not proceed without getting the nod from the Centre. It is not a new case we are going to file before the apex court, it is the continuation of an existing case on Cauvery water sharing dispute, he said.
