Minister denies charges, says Tamil Nadu government sought Prime Minister’s audience on Cauvery row

CHENNAI: Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar on Wednesday denied as incorrect the charge of Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan that the State had not sought an audience with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to represent the Cauvery issue. Answering mediapersons queries here, the minister said “A responsible Union Minister should not give such incorrect information.  After the all-party meeting chaired by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on February 22, a letter was written to the Prime Minister seeking his audience for the all-party delegation.”

Jayakumar also welcomed the statement of actor Rajinikanth condemning the attack on police personnel by a section of agitators on Tuesday during protests.  Stating that some outfits were trying to gain political mileage through the protests and indulging in violence, the minister hailed the action taken by State police to maintain law and order when there were widespread protests on Anna Salai to stop IPL matches.

DMK public meet on Cauvery rescheduled
The Cauvery Rights Retrieval March, led by DMK working president MK Stalin, has been rescheduled as leaders of TN opposition parties in are to meet Governor on Friday.The ongoing march was originally scheduled to culminate at Cuddalore on Thursday evening with a public meeting the following day. But the organizers on Wednesday announced that the public meeting has been rescheduled to be held on Thursday evening itself, DMK sources said.

A car rally would be taken out on Friday morning from Cuddalore culminating at Raj Bhavan at  Guindy here, through Puducherry, Tindivanam, Chengalpattu and Tambaram.Subsequently, top leaders of the nine-party opposition combine will call on the Governor to submit a memorandum on the Cauvery dispute, the sources said.
