Tamil Nadu: DMK seeks CBI probe into TANGEDCO’s coal deals

In a statement, party working president MK Stalin said it was shocking to know that TANGEDCO had directed the contractors to quote high prices

CHENNAI: Calling the CAG reports tabled in the Assembly recently “an encyclopedia of financial and administrative failures of the AIADMK govt”, the DMK on Wednesday sought a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities in coal imports by TANGEDCO.

In a statement, party working president MK Stalin said it was shocking to know that TANGEDCO had directed the contractors to quote high prices. “A CBI probe should be ordered into the alleged irregularities in coal imports. If it is not done, the party will move the court,” he said.

Stalin noted that high cost and poor quality of coal have led to huge losses running to Rs 1,599.81 crore and the cumulative loss incurred to exchequer due to maladministration of government was around Rs 12,000 crore. Referring to the findings of CAG regarding 2015 Chennai floods, he sought registration of criminal cases against those responsible for discharging a huge volume of waterfrom Chembarambakkam.
