Puducherry budget not passed, House adjourned sine die

IN a rare event, the budget session of the Puducherry Legislative Assembly was adjourned sine die on Thursday, without passing the budget, triggering concerns, particularly among government employees.

PUDUCHERRY: In a rare event, the budget session of the Puducherry Legislative Assembly was adjourned sine die on Thursday, without passing the budget, triggering concerns, particularly among government employees.

The Appropriation Bill (Budget) was listed on the agenda for introduction in the Assembly. But it could not be introduced and passed as Lt Governor Kiran Bedi has not granted approval.

At the fag end of the sitting on Thursday, Speaker V Vaithilingam announced that since the L-G had not given her approval for the Appropriation Bill, it could not be passed and adjourned the House sine die.
Later in an informal chat with newspersons, the Speaker clarified that the Finance department had sent the file to the L-G for approval. But since the file has not reached him, the Bill could not be passed, Vaithilingam said
