‘Consider plea to increase retirement age of government doctors’

The First Bench of the Madras High Court on Thursday directed the State to consider a representation seeking enhancement of the age of superannuation of government doctors from 58 to 65 years.

CHENNAI: The First Bench of the Madras High Court on Thursday directed the State to consider a representation seeking enhancement of the age of superannuation of government doctors from 58 to 65 years.

The Bench of Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice P T Asha, before which the PIL from K Purushotham of Madras Medical College (MMC) came up, said that it appeared the Medical Council of India had approved, modified and amended the age of retirement of government doctors and as per All India Medical Council’s notification, several States in India had increased the superannuation age to 65 years.
