COIMBATORE: Leaders of political parties in Tamil Nadu are refusing to appreciate the Central government although it has announced an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for Tamil Nadu in Madurai, BJP State president Tamilisai Soundararajan has said.

“The Congress and its allies, which were in power for long, have never made such an announcement for Tamil Nadu’s growth,” she told mediapersons at the Coimbatore airport on Saturday morning.

Despite the Narendra Modi-led BJP government making the announcement, party leaders here refuse to appreciate it. The DMK working president is acting against the Central government and hindering its welfare activities in Tamil Nadu, she charged.

This is in contrast with the BJP’s attitude, which corrects itself in response to public criticism of policies and programmes, she said.

About Karnataka’s move on Cauvery, Tamilisai said, “We strongly condemn Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, who has objected to the formation of the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) and expressed plans to approach  the Supreme Court against it. But parties and leaders in Tamil Nadu, including actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan, are remaining mute spectators to it. Though Kumaraswamy is acting against Tamil Nadu’s interests, no party here is staging protests against him”.

“The DMK working president should walk to Bengaluru like he did before the CWMA’s formation and put pressure on Karnataka to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. And as the Centre has formed CWMA, opposition parties should withdraw protests with black balloons and black flags that they staged during the PM’s visit to Tamil Nadu,” she added.

On the gutka scam, she said it was unfair to ask ministers facing charges to step down.
“Besides AIADMK leaders, DMK leaders should also be investigated, as the scam had taken place over a decade. The CBI should carry out a detailed probe,” said Tamilisai.
