COIMBATORE: The syndicate member of the Bharathiar University KM Chinnadorai, who claimed that a letter from VLB Janakiammal College of Arts and Science College, which said he was terminated from the post of Principal, as 'bogus', has now joined as principal of Kamban College of Arts and Science.
Interestingly, Chinnadorai, who attended syndicate meeting on June 18 claiming to be principal of VLB Janakiammal College of Arts and Science, has now said, he had joined as Principal of Kamban College of Arts and Science on June 15, the next day of his termination from his previous college. Chinnadurai was elected to the syndicate by senate members from among the principals of affiliated colleges. Secretary of the VLB Janakiammal College of Arts and Science Jaishree S Santhosh terminated him from the principal post from 4 pm on June 14 and the same was communicated to the Bharathiar University on June 18 morning, the day when the syndicate met at the university campus.
Despite his termination from the principal post, Chinnadorai attended the syndicate meeting and two of the syndicate members raised the issue and showed the letter from the college. When the Principal Secretary to the Higher Education department Sunil Paliwal enquired about this, Registrar (in charge) B Vanitha said, the university has not received any official communication from the college.
When Express contacted him on the same day after the syndicate meeting, Chinnadurai replied, "I am very much in service. I suspect it is a bogus letter."
Interestingly, Chinnadorai had signed the syndicate meeting minutes held on June 18, as principal of VLB Janakiammal College of Arts and Science, university sources pointed out. "We have received the letter from VLB Janakiammal College of Arts and Science. We have also received another letter saying Chinnadurai has joined as principal of Kamban College of Arts and Science from June 15. By virtue of his position as principal he continues as syndicate member. If we receive any complaint we will analyze and take a decision," said Registrar in charge B Vanitha.
When contacted Chinnadorai refused to comment on the issue. The issue is likely to be raked up at the meeting of the senate which is scheduled to be held on Friday.
If Chinnadurai has joined as principal of Kamban College of Arts and Science on June 15th itself, why he has not informed the same in the syndicate meeting held on June 18, remains a big question mark, says Association of University Teachers vice president N Pasupathy. "The University should conduct a thorough enquiry about this and should not approve his appointment as principal of Kamban College of Arts and Science until completion of the enquiry. Chinnadorai should not be allowed to participate in syndicate and senate meeting until completion of the enquiry. If found guilty stern action should be taken against him and also against the college. It should also be enquired who in Registrar section has failed to bring the termination letter to the knowledge of the authorities in time," he demanded.
