CHENNAI: A retired Accounts Officer and his assistant attached to Raj Bhavan, arrested in connection with furniture purchase scam case, were granted bail by the Madras High Court on Wednesday.
Justice A D Jagadish Chandira granted the relief with the condition that the duo – Kuppusamy and Sivakumar respectively– should appear before the Inspector of Police, Guindy, daily at 10.30 am. untill further orders.

On the basis of a complaint lodged by the Deputy Secretary of Governor’s Household on February 13 last that the house-keeping department had made payments to a furnishing firm at Adyar on bogus bills, Guindy police registered a case on February 26. No furniture was supplied as per the bills.

The duo, who were cited as accused 4 and 5, were arrested later. The petitioners submitted that their role is limited to passing the bills submitted by the housekeeping department to the Deputy Secretary for approval. On approval, payments are released. So, the allegation that the bills were fabricated by them, is false.
