Tamil Nadu government to observe Sivaji Ganesan, Ramasamy Padayachi birthdays

Palaniswami also announced that the ceiling on annual income and gratuity for journalists to get pension from the State government would be hiked from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 3 lakh.

CHENNAI: Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Friday announced that the birth anniversaries of freedom fighter Ramasamy Padayachi and actor Sivaji Ganesan would be celebrated by the State government from this year.  

The memorial of the late Chief Minister CN Annadurai would be renovated at a cost of Rs 4 crore, Palaniswami added.

Actor Prabhu, son of Sivaji Ganesan, thanked the Chief Minister for the gesture.

Palaniswami also announced that the ceiling on annual income and gratuity for journalists to get pension from the State government would be hiked from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 3 lakh.  

At present, journalists are given Rs 10,000 per month as pension and Rs 5,000 as family pension.  
Further, the financial assistance of Rs 50,000 being given to journalists who are suffering from serious diseases will be hiked to Rs 1 lakh.

Edappadi K Palansiwami on Friday announced that Rs 100 crore would be granted for carrying out flood prevention works this year in the city, its suburbs and rural areas. He said every year, during monsoon, residential areas around Adyar river, Araniar river, Kosathalaiyar, Cooum and Kovalam used to be surrounded by flood waters.  Using this fund, places which get affected would be identified and to divert the water to lakes and other water resources
