Deaf and Dumb Dalit Girl Raped; Four Arrested

WARANGAL: In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old deaf and dumb Dalit girl was raped at Inavolu village in Wardhannapet mandal in Warangal district on Wednesday night.

While family members of the victim are suspecting the involvement of four youths in the heinous crime, police who nabbed four youths are maintaining that only one person has committed the offence.

According to sources, the girl who resides with her parents in SC Colony of the village ventured out of the house around 10 .30 pm to attend to nature’s call when she was dragged to a nearby secluded place and raped by the accused.

The culprits reportedly took advantage of the noise created by a marriage procession which was passing by. After the heinous act, the perpetrators left the girl near her house by with her hands tied behind her back with a cloth and gagged.    

Meanwhile, the victim’s father, K Yellaiah, who had already gone to bed by then, woke up a little later and found his daughter missing. He then launched a search for her and found her soon. Realising her ordeal, he and other family members rushed her to a local RMP who gave her first-aid.

The girl’s parents apprised the village elders of the incident on Thursday morning and the latter, in turn, informed the matter to the Wardhannapet police. Wardhannapet Circle Inspector Moses  shifted the victim to a hospital here for treatment.

When Express contacted Moses over phone, he said the woman had told them through signs that only one person had committed the offence.

Meanwhile, activists of AIDWA Warangal district unit staged a rasta roko near the hospital demanding stringent  action against the accused quartet.
