Film and Sports Cities to Come up at Rachakonda

Oppn wants the hillocks to be used for adventure tourism

HYDERABAD: Film city and a Sports city will come up in Rachakonda area between Ranga Reddy and Nalgonda districts.

Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao conducted an aerial survey on Rachakonda  on Monday and identified the land for the proposed Film and Sports cities.

Rao said that the government would construct both the cities with international standards. The land in Rachakonda was most suitable for the film and sports cities, he added.

Education minister G Jagdeeshwar Reddy, transport minister P Mahender Reddy and chief secretary Rajiv Sharma accompanied the chief minister on his aerial survey. Observing that about 31,000 acres of land is available at Rachakonda, Rao said that the location is good to set up several industries as well as educational and other institutions.

All non-polluting industries should be located in Rachakonda, the chief minister said. The collectors of Ranga Reddy and Nalgonda districts were also present during the CM’s visit.

Sources said Rao is ready to develop basic infrastructure in the hilly terrain so as to attract investments.

Meanwhile, the BJP opposed the setting up of Cinema City in Rachakonda hills. ‘’KCR is behaving like a king. How can he give any land to individuals without consulting the stakeholders, who include the locals,’’ BJP national executive member P Chandrasekhar Rao said.

He said Rachakonda hillocks have a historic and spiritual importance which cannot be disturbed. Instead, the lands can be developed for spiritual or adventure tourism, he said and warned of agitations  if the government goes ahead with the proposal.
