Winter session of Telangana Assembly to begin on Dec 16

The House likely to be rocked by issues such as impact of demonetisation & farmers’ suicide.

HYDERABAD: State is going to witness a hectic activity starting  Dec 10 as chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has called for a cabinet meet on that day,  besides deciding to hold the winter session of the state Assembly from December 16, which will be preceded by collectors’ conference scheduled on Dec 14.
The chief minister has requested Assembly Secretary Raja Sadaram to send a request note to governor E S L Narasimhan regarding convening the winter session, the state government said in a release here on Wednesday.

The House, which is expected to be rocked by issues like the impact of demonetisation of high value notes on commoners, farmers suicides, fee reimbursement and alleged irregularities in irrigation projects, is likely to last for a week.
The exact agenda and length of the session will be chalked out by the Business Advisory Committee of the Assembly (BAC), which will meet at 11.30 a.m. on Dec 15 at the chambers of Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary.

Interestingly, the Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC), headed by Prof M Kodandaram, had already decided to hold a massive dharna in Hyderabad, during the winter session, with the oustees of various irrigation projects, to protest against government’s decision to procure agricultural lands for the projects.
Earlier in the day, a preparatory meeting on holding the Assembly session was held at Pragathi Bhavan, the official residence-cum-camp office of the chief minister here. Deputy chief minister Kadiyam Srihari, ministers T Harish Rao, KT Rama Rao, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and Tummala Nageswara Rao and others attended the meeting.

The state Cabinet meet will be held at the Secretariat at 3 p.m. on Dec 10.
The district collectors’ conference will be held on Dec 14 at Pragathi Bhavan under the chairmanship of the chief minister. Heads of all departments and secretaries have already been asked to attend the conference as the chief minister wants to give instructions to the official machinery on how to encourage cashless transactions in the state. Meanwhile, KCR told to distribute clothes to needy.
