Hyderabad HC seeks report from GHMC, TS on rainwater harvesting

The Acting Chief Justice noted that he too lacked a rainwater harvesting pit in his home.

HYDERABAD: A division bench of the Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday directed the Telangana government and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to furnish the report on steps being initiated based on the recommendations of the committee constituted to oversee the construction of rainwater harvesting structures in GHMC limits and urban areas of the state.

The bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice A Shankar Narayana was dealing with a petition by S Vaidehi Reddy seeking directions to the state government, GHMC and other respondent authorities to ensure strict enforcement of government order Ms No.350 dated June 9, 2009 adopted in the AP Building Rules 2012 pertaining to rainwater harvesting structures for all the buildings wherever applicable in Hyderabad.

During the course of hearing, the ACJ in a lighter vein quipped that he too does not have a water harvesting pit in his house and it would not be proper for him to hear the case till completion of a pit in his house. While adjourning the case by two weeks, the bench directed the authorities to furnish the action-taken report on the issue.
