HYDERABAD: Telangana will now become the only state in the country with a dedicated policy framework on cyber security. The state information technology department through a dedicated policy for the sector will set up institutions and legal framework to counter cyber crimes.
India had formulated its national cyber security framework as late as 2013. By forming its own cyber secutiry policy Telangana becomes the first state with a dedicated policy on cyber security. The state hopes to set up a cyber security emergency response team in the process and ramp up its awareness and safe cyber practice programmes among citizens.
The policy was unveiled on Thursday as part of the state’s sectoral policy for information technology. The department identified four key areas cyber security, data centre, data analytics and open data as sectors where a policy framework will help generate more employment and boost investments. The polices were launched at Hyderabad International Convention Centre by IT minister KT Rama Rao.
“In a sector-like IT we need sectoral policies that will bring more clarity, this will help generate employment and promote ease of doing business,” said Rama Rao. The government needs to collaborate with experts and take them into consultation while framing policy, we have done that here with these policies. Some believe automation will result in job loses, but in reality this will open up new sectors and ecosystems of job creation, he added.
State’s cyber security policy will encompass framework on various topics ranging from legal and regulatory procedures to compliance and enforcement. The policy will also give incentives to cyber security firms on server space at subsidised rates and reimbursement of internet and patent filing costs. The firms under this sector will also receive grants to set up R&D facilities.
While speaking on data analytics, Rama Rao said that the states focus on data analytics will encourage the state government take on data driven decisions. As a part of this effort the state will set up a Data Analytics Park and also set up Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge (TASK). TASK will act as a nodal agency to help the state nurture professionals skilled in data analysis and mining.
The state will also set up a Telangana Data Analysis Wing.
