30 cops to be served notice for probe in Nayeem case

Police officers include retired officers asking them to appear before it for questioning in connection with the case.

HYDERABAD: The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is investigating into the cases related to slain gangster Mohammed Nayeemuddin’s illegal activities, is likely to serve notices on as many as 30 police officers including retired officers asking them to appear before it for questioning in connection with the case.

The SIT officials are likely to serve notices even to some political leaders in a phased manner.

Few days after the appointment of additional DGP (law & order) Anjani Kumar to monitor the progress of the investigation into the Nayeem case, the investigation has been expedited for collecting evidence. Sources told Express that SIT officials had obtained leads about 30 police officials including inspectors, DSP and SP rank officers, who had links with Nayeem, financially.

All these police officers had earlier discharged their duties in Bhongir, Nalgonda and Cyberabad and Hyderabad. When Nayeem was alive and was involved in illegal activities of extortion, murders, land gabbing, double registration, threatening and others, these police officers had assisted Nayeem. For letting off Nayeem, the police officers were given valuable gifts, other bribes like bearing the expenses of tours to various famous places in India.

A team of SIT officials have worked out in getting names of police officers, current designations, professional record, decoding their remarks if any. SIT officials also collected data of retired police officers and their residential addresses and contact details. The SIT officials also listed details of political leaders, who had links and their call detail records (CDR). Sources further stated that the SIT officials would question police officers and political leaders in connection with Nayeem.
