HYDERABAD: The state police, who are investigating the  illegal activities of slain gangster Mohammed Nayeemuddin alias Nayeem, are likely to ask the government to set up a fast-track court for speedy legal proceedings. There are 34 fast-track courts functioning in the state. Keeping in view the importance of Nayeem cases, police officials are understood to have discussed the need for setting up a fast-track court based on the inputs received from the Special Investigation Team (SIT). They will send a proposal to state government in this regard soon.

Sources told Express that the officials reviewed the status of investigation into Nayeem’s illegal activities and discussed the need for setting up a fast-track court as SIT registered around 200 cases in connection with the Nayeem’s illegal activities.
“The cases have been registered at various places in Nalgonda, Bhongir, Cyberabad, Rachakonda and other districts.

As the case is sensational and a number of gangsters committed crimes in association with Nayeem, it will be appropriate if a single court deals with all the cases. ,” officials said and justified their thinking by saying that trial proceedings in cases registered at various places and at courts located at different places would only cause delay. The police officials, however, will take a final decision on sending the proposal to the government in a few days.

SIT officials registered around 200 cases against Nayeem and his gang members, and arrested 125 accused. Police took 330 accused into custody on prisoner transit (PT) warrant in different cases and 107 accused were questioned. SIT officials  examined 878 witnesses in various cases and filed charge sheets in 18 cases.
Further, police said they collected information about several crimes in which the gang was involved and secured material evidence.
