HYDERABAD: Telangana Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA), a wing of Municipal Administration and Urban Development, has initiated a vulnerability mapping in as many as 41 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) including district headquarters under National Urban Health Mission (NUHM).
The mapping aims at ensuring primary health care services to vulnerable population in ULBs.
Through the mapping, MEPMA would assess how different aspects related to a ward which would make living conditions vulnerable with reference to health.
The assessment is being carried out by using a tool which covers various aspects including location of slum and status of housing, availability and accessibility of basic services like water supply, drainage and toilets, nature of occupation and employment and access to health services etc.
The survey has been undertaken by the health community resource persons, urban Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) workers in all wards covering all vulnerability pockets, and the mapping is expected to be completed by the month-end, municipal administration officials said.
The municipal commissioners and deputy municipal commissioners have been directed to coordinate the survey in all the ULBs through the MEPMA staff and monitor the data uploading in MEPMA web portal.
Target
The mapping is being conducted on rag pickers, rickshaw pullers, homeless, construction workers, daily wage labourers, domestic workers, elderly poor, widows and deserted women, head loaders, differently abled persons, debilitating illnesses such as HIV/AIDS, sex workers, leprosy, tuberculosis, street children, transgenders, sanitary workers, people with mental illness, people living in institutions like night shelters etc.
