Telangana allots Rs 206 crore for third phase of Mission Kakatiya

The state government has sanctioned Rs 206 crore to renovate 719 village tanks under Mission Kakatiya third phase and construction has begun in Nalgonda, Suryapet and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri districts.

NALGONDA: The State government has sanctioned Rs 206 crore to renovate 719 village tanks under Mission Kakatiya third phase and construction work has begun in Nalgonda, Suryapet and Yadadri Bhuvanagiri districts.

Officials said that 4,762 village tanks have been identified by the district administrations. In the first phase, government allotted Rs 160 crore to renovate 808 tanks. Construction of about 798 tanks is complete while others are under progress. In the second phase, the government sanctioned Rs 456 crore to renovate 1,070 tanks. As many as 270 have been completed. In the third phase, the State has sanctioned Rs 206 crore to renovate 719 village tanks.  

Meanwhile, the government has decided to complete the third phase tanks renovation works in June before it starts raining. Irrigation and revenue officials jointly conducted meetings with contractors to begin work.
Due to heavy rains in the erstwhile Nalgonda district in September, most of the renovated village tanks were filled and ground water level got recharged. Paddy was cultivated across the districts in the last Rabi season, which led to procurement in high range. Farmers were pleased with these developments.

Officials told Express that permission from officials concerned, tenders and agreement with contractors have completed under the project. Third phase of the project has begun at various places across the district, they added.
